Istanbul is the capital city of Turkey and the largest city in the country with a population of more that 11.000.000 people, and the largest in Europe. Throughout its history, diverse cultural and ethnic groups have incorporated her and the appearance of Istanbul has been changing through to the present time.
From what we have said before, walking through the streets of Istanbul we can find several Mosques, Synagogues and Churches of such great value that in 1985, UNESCO declared the historical centres of Istanbul as a World Heritage site.
It is easy to see that the city divides into two parts, (apart from the already known Islamic and European division) the ancient and the modern. In the ancient part, we find the Golden Horn, a splendid harbour that has an extension of 8 kilometres. In the modern area we are obliged to mention the Holy Wisdom Church in the European section and the Topkapi Palace.
The Galata Tower is found to the north of the Golden Horn and is 66 metres high. There is a restaurant at the top of the tower and you can see the incredible views of Istanbul City.
We have a good combination of tranvias to be able to move around the city. To come by air, we have the Istanbul International Airport called Ataturk and located 24 kilometres to the southeast in the European area.
